Collection Summary

Abstract

This collection consists of one box of materials relating to the Roxbury Almshouse, Boston Mass.

Collection Description

This collection consists of a notebook containing lists of state paupers in the Roxbury Almshouse, 1845-1853, including name, country of origin, discharge date, and number of years of residence. Also included are lists of deaths; coffins furnished; ship fever (typhus) cases taken into the almshouse; cases of smallpox and cholera; and bills and accounts of money received, 1855-1865. In addition, the collection contains a copy of a note written by the mayor and alderman of Roxbury requesting money from the state, 1848; and two letters, 1912, listing interments in the city burial lot at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
